Basics of Fans & Blowers

We’ve just posted another presentation on the Air Equipment YouTube Channel. This five-part series is titled “The Basics of Fans & Blowers.” It is a modified Lunch & Learn program that discusses the following: different types of fan impellers, typical applications for various types of fans, an overview of fan curves and the Fan Laws, belt-drive fans vs. direct-drive fans, and ECM technology.

Go to:

Look for the five most recently uploaded videos, and also in the Created Playlists section, titled “Basics of Fans & Blowers.”

The goal of the Air Equipment YouTube channel is to offer informational videos about various commercial ventilation products and services. We hope to post new content each month or so. The channel also links to videos from some of the manufacturers we represent, along with assorted other entertaining content. Just click on the “Playlists” link.

PORTSMOUTH, VA – With the August 2015 acquisition by DMI Companies, Lindab USA unveiled its new identity as Linx Industries, Inc. on October 1st. Fans on social media had a sneak peek to the change in September. The HVAC sheet metal ductwork manufacturer has also introduced a new set of identifying logos.

The transformation to Linx Industries will be apparent to business partners and everyone within the HVAC community over the coming weeks. The company has released a new website featuring the manufacturer’s sheet metal products featuring the Lindab Safe® self-sealing product line.

“While we are all extremely proud of our many successes and accomplishments as Lindab USA, we are very excited to now grow, improve and achieve even more as Linx Industries!” said Linx’s President, Dave Shaeffer.

IAC Acoustics

IAC Acoustics (formally Industrial Acoustics Company / IAC), who was instrumental in the development of noise control products, has closed their commercial noise control product lines which include acoustical doors, panels, medical booths, and all silencer products (industrial and HVAC).

This will create a shift in the industry. That being said, the Vibro-Acoustics team, which includes our 20 internal application engineers, are ready to assist – in any way possible – on projects in design or purchase to help fill applications or orders that have ceased with IAC.

Please keep in mind that we can assist with the following applications:

1. HVAC and industrial silencer products (both standard and custom)
2. Acoustical plenum panels or integrated systems with structural steel
3. Acoustical louvers ranging from 4” to 24” deep with various finish options available
4. Acoustical enclosures for various types of mechanical equipment
5. Outdoor applications such as rooftop units, air-cooled chillers, generators, and cooling towers

Engineering Update July 2015

Bill Dunn’s Engineering Update

Instead of a product-oriented newsletter, this month’s “Engineering Update” is an essay I wrote for the editorial page of The Sunday Republican newspaper in Waterbury, Conn.

After the recent papal encyclical referred to air-conditioning as one of the world’s “harmful habits of consumption,” I felt compelled to defend our industry. (I just hope I don’t get excommunicated.)
